"How does one become Catholic?"

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church offers a very fine process of helping those who are not Catholic to learn and discern if the Catholic faith is what they seek and want. The process is called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) and is a school year model of formation meeting weekly from August thru April, with the Easter vigil being the norm for joining the Church. The RCIA incorporates adult learning principles and invites participants to listen to the Catholic Church "Faith Story" and compare/contrast it to their own life experience. A calendar with dates and topics are available upon request for you to look at.

Flexible options may be available for previously baptized inquirers who have been married to a Catholic spouse or raised their children in the Catholic faith for several years. What are you waiting for? Give us a call and tell us your story today.

RCIA sessions will meet on most Wednesdays evenings.. The Easter Vigil is when catechumens and candidates will be baptized or received into the full communion of the Catholic Church.

If you are interested in the RCIA, please call the Parish Office at (812)-945-2374. You may also contact us by email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We look forward to hearing from you and answering any questions you may have.

Prayer for a Parish Implementing the RCIA

Heavenly Father, we ask you to bless our work of Christian Initiation. Help us welcome the catechumens and candidates that you send us. May we listen respectfully and reverently to their life story and journey of faith. Inspire us to share our story and journey with them.

Christ Jesus, draw us closer to you. Guide us on the path of conversion. Help us to embrace our experience of Christian Initiation. Help us to truly celebrate and live the sacramental life. May we strive for holiness and become more like you.

Holy Spirit, we ask you to stir the hearts of all involved in Christian Initiation. Open the minds of the catechumens and candidates to the plan God has for them. Reveal to us the gifts you have given us and the gifts you want to grow in us. Help us to share these gifts with passion and love.

Enlighten us in our mission of hospitality and evangelization. We praise you and thank you – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – for this holy and sacred privilege.
