November 2nd “kicked off” All Souls’ Day for Catholics, but there is a tradition to remember the faithful departed from the past year throughout the month. This week we remember Mike Naville who died September 12. Mike was very involved with our school and parish while raising his four daughters. He gave generously to the community serving on Boards and receiving the Chancellor’s Medallion at IUS for outstanding community service. Noted for his cooking, numerous meals prepared by Mike were raffled off for many charities. We remember and give thanks for Mike’s life.
PHS Empty Bowls Event will be held on Sun. Nov. 23rd from 5:00-7:00pm at the Providence School Activity Center. Come select a handmade ceramic bowl, make a suggested minimum donation of $15, enjoy a simple meal of soup and bread. You keep the bowl as a reminder of the event and the hunger needs that persist. All profits will benefit Meals on Wheels, OLPH soup kitchen ministries, In Heaven?s Eyes of Holy Family, and St. Elizabeth?s Catholic Charities food pantry. Our Lady will sponsor 48 Floyd County children with 2 Christmas gifts each for the holidays through Hope Southern Indiana’s Spirit of the Season program. The trees in church will be filled with ornaments beginning November 18 through December 6.
Lisa Mock, RN is stepping down from the Blood Pressure Screening Ministry at the first of the year. We thank Lisa for her years of service and pray that another Registered Nurse will consider joining this ministry. The vacant positon is for blood pressures taken after the 5:30pm Mass on the third Saturday of even months. This commitment comes to about three hours a year! Tuesday, November 25, at 5:30 pm, followed by our parish Thanksgiving Feast and Thursday, November 27 at 9:00 am. We will be accepting canned goods as an offering at all Thanksgiving masses.

Ruth was an active member in the Madonna Circle (women?s club), money counter for Sunday and Holy Day collections, and made desserts for our funeral luncheons. Ruth was also generous to the local community for many years taking leadership roles in the Harvest Homecoming, Pilot Club, and Salvation Army. We remember and give thanks for Ruth?s life. Prayer Blankets/Shawls for a child or adult illness or for the birth of a child are available at no cost in the Parish Center.
The Lighter Side Cookbook by the OLPH Health Ministry is filled with many quick, easy, lighter recipes for busy families! This will make a great Christmas gift. The cookbook is estimated to be delivered by December 19th. The cost will be $10.00 a book. Look for cookbook sales after Masses in the upcoming weeks. All proceeds will help benefit the OLPH Health Ministry.

This week we remember Jim Smith would died March 2. Jim was a generous Christian Steward. He served for many years in many capacities at Our Lady: School Board, Pastoral Council, Faith Formation Commission, Lector, RCIA Team and more. His service spanned 40 years here at Our Lady. We remember and give thanks for Jim’s life.

The Our Lady Children’s Choir had a prayer contest earlier this school year. Each member was asked to write a prayer for the choir to pray prior to practice and Mass. Congratulations to Alli Wade, Mary Beth Braden and Laney Dykes!

This Sunday, November 2, the Church Commemorates All the Faithful Departed (All Souls Day). Since last All Souls Day we have recorded 28 deaths in our parish. During the visitation of the deceased and at the subsequent funeral Mass or service, we remember (and celebrate) each person's way of life. We remember what they did with what they had as they believed in God. We give thanks for their good and faithful stewardship.
