Hello, my name is Christine Castleberry. This is my 8th year teaching 2nd grade after teaching Pre-K for three years. I graduated from Indiana University Southeast with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a Special Education endorsement in Learning Disabilities. After teaching Special Education for three years, I chose to stay at home and raise my children. Throughout my time at home, I kept actively involved with education by providing individual tutoring for students of all ages and still continue to tutor after school and in the summer.

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Dave, for 22 years!!! We are active members of the Our Lady Community. We have three fabulous children who keep us very busy with all their activities. JD is at U of L studying engineering at the Speed School. Lauren is at Providence and enjoys playing soccer and basketball there. Caroline is an 8th grader, so this is her last year with me at Our Lady. She also enjoys playing basketball.

Second grade is a very exciting year as the children prepare for and receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion. As a “cradle Catholic”, I have had a lifetime to deepen my faith and it is a blessing to work in an environment where I can share my faith and help deepen the faith of others. In my years as an Our Lady Parishioner, I have been very impressed with all of the programs the church has to offer to meet the needs of all parishioners such as Week One. Our Lady is truly a remarkable church and school. I am proud to call it my “home” and I feel very blessed to be a part of such a wonderful community.

Again this year I will be using “flexible seating” in my classroom. Children will have the opportunity to use a yoga ball or mat, an air cushion, a bean bag, wobble seat, or a standing desk. I will also be doing Guided Reading and small Math groups, which allows each student to work on their level and be challenged or supported appropriately. Most mornings, we will start by doing Minds in Motion which is a fantastic opportunity to get the students energized and ready to learn.

In my free-time, I like to read, exercise, and watch sports.I also enjoy spending quality time with my family here as well as with my family in Nebraska.

Mrs. Castleberry
Our Lady 2nd grade teacher

Hello, my name is Melissa Black. This is my second year teaching second grade at Our Lady. I taught preschool for 2 years prior to pursuing my Masters in Teaching for Elementary Education from Bellarmine University. I graduated in December 2017, and was a substitute teacher in Jefferson County Public Schools before joining the Our Lady team.

I have been married to my husband, Ryan, for five years. We are currently living in Sellersburg. We have two wonderful children. Luke is almost 5, and is part of the Our Lady family in Pre-K. Belle just turned two, and will be joining the Our Lady family next year.

This year, I will be using a classroom economy management system. We will also be using Guided Reading and small Math groups in order to meet each student at their level. I am also very excited for our classroom “Mental Health Check In” wall, which will allow students to tell me how they are feeling each week. This is a great way for me to meet students’ emotional needs as well as their educational needs.

In my free time, I enjoy taking Luke to taekwondo, reading, and crafting. We also spend time on the weekends with my family in Louisville.

I am so excited to continue to be a part of the Our Lady Community.
