Hello, my name is Christine Castleberry. This is my 7th year teaching 2nd grade after teaching Pre-K for three years. I graduated from Indiana University Southeast with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a Special Education endorsement in Learning Disabilities. After teaching Special Education for three years, I chose to stay at home and raise my children.  Throughout my time at home, I kept actively involved with education by providing individual tutoring for students of all ages and still continue to tutor after school and in the summer.

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Dave, for 21 years!!!  We are active members of the Our Lady Community.  We have three fabulous children who keep us very busy with all their activities.  JD is at UofL studying engineering at the Speed School. Lauren is at Providence and enjoys playing soccer and basketball there. Caroline is a 7th grader this year and the only one left with me at Our Lady. She is enjoys playing basketball and running track.

Second grade is a very exciting year as the children prepare for and receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion.  As a “cradle Catholic”, I have had a lifetime to deepen my faith and it is a blessing to work in an environment where I can share my faith and help deepen the faith of others.  In my years as an Our Lady Parishioner, I have been very impressed with all of the programs the church has to offer to meet the needs of all parishioners such as Week One.  Our Lady is truly a remarkable church and school. I am proud to call it my “home” and I feel very blessed to be a part of such a wonderful community.

Again this year I will be using “flexible seating” in my classroom.  Children will have the opportunity to use a yoga ball or mat, an air cushion, a bean bag, wobble seat, or a standing desk. I will also be doing Guided Reading and small Math groups, which allows each student to work on their level and be challenged or supported appropriately.  Most mornings, we will start by doing Minds in Motion which is a fantastic opportunity to get the students energized and ready to learn.

In my free of time, (which seems to be less and less as my children have gotten older and more involved in extracurricular activities) I like to read, exercise, and watch sports. I also enjoy spending quality time with my family here as well as with my family in Nebraska.
Mrs. Castleberry
Our Lady 2nd grade teacher

This is my first year teaching second grade. I taught preschool for 2 years prior to pursuing my Masters in Teaching for Elementary Education from Bellarmine University. I graduated in December 2017, and was a preferred substitute teacher in Jefferson County Public Schools. We just moved from Prospect, KY to Sellersburg.

I have been married to my husband, Ryan, for almost four years. He works for Louisville Gas and Electric as a Software Developer. We have two wonderful children.  Luke is three, and will also be joining the Our Lady family in preschool. Belle just turned one, and will be attending daycare near our house.
This year, I will be using flexible seating in my classroom. We will also be using Guided Reading and small Math groups in order to meet each student at their level. I am also very excited for our classroom “I Wonder” wall, which will allow students to tell me what they are interested in learning, outside of our standard content. We will spend time on Fridays answering the students’ questions.

I am so excited to be joining the Our Lady Community to begin my elementary teaching career.
