Ministry of Consolation Team Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church
Mission & General Responsibilities (Revised Summer, 2014)
Mission Statement
The Ministry of Consolation Team (MCT) exists to console parishioners experiencing grief from a variety of losses.
This mission is primarily accomplished by the general responsibilities listed below.
General Responsibilities
Upon notification of a parishioner’s death or an immediate family member of a parishioner, the MCT sends a mailing on different topics of grief and recovery to the appropriate family member. The mailing may be a brief series (for spouses) or a one-time letter and care note.
The MCT stocks an assortment of “Care Notes” in the church vestibule. They are provided free of charge for whoever has need of them.
The MCT offers educational programs for those experiencing loss and grief. Our current program is a DVD presentation (with discussion) of “No One Cries the Wrong Way” scheduled throughout the year.
The MCT collaborates with the pastor and the liturgy committee in planning, promoting, and implementing the All Soul’s Day Mass (November 2) and the “Longest Night Mass” on or near the winter solstice.
The MCT mails an annual Holiday Grieving Care Note in early December to parishioners who have lost a loved one since Christmas Day of the previous year.
The MCT hosts an annual spring prayer breakfast with speaker sometime during late March or early April. This breakfast is scheduled on a Saturday morning. The purpose and theme of the breakfast and talk is one of hope, resurrection, and new life keeping with the season of the year. This event is advertised and open to the New Albany Deanery.
The MCT is interested and open to networking with other parish ministries (such as Liturgy, Health Ministry, Funeral Luncheons, and Resurrection Choir)
in developing and growing ways to console those experiencing loss.
